The Rooster's Wife Gig

Created: Monday, 06 August 2012

late late july 2012 009Tim Carter had always told me it was the case, but I had to see it for myself: The Rooster’s Wife, a venue in Aberdeen, NC, is a treasure for music lovers. My wife Emily and I arrived with a bunch of friends (that seemed to grow by the hour as our departure approached!) from the Raleigh/Durham area.

Music with Friends of the Carter Brothers

Created: Sunday, 29 July 2012

One of the joys of being a fan and friend of the Carter Brothers is constantly getting to meet terrific people – down to earth, funny folks who are (as Danny would say) “great hangs”.  As you might expect, many of them are top-notch musicians.

April with the Carter Brothers: Triumph Amidst Loss

Created: Monday, 30 April 2012

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of friends and fans of the Carter Brothers Band actually can keep a secret. Without telling the band, I headed down to Key West to hear the first night of their week of shows there earlier this month. I was en route to Haiti and had spent that day, Monday, April 9, having more success than expected raising money for Grameen Foundation, the international humanitarian organization that I lead. One of my favorite dance partners, Gail Hardy, had committed to coming down to the Hog’s Breath that night to try one more time to wear me out. But there were also some tense moments.

The Blind Tiger Gig (July 2012)

Created: Friday, 27 July 2012

The Carter Brothers returned to Greensboro, North Carolina last night, playing at the Blind Tiger in its new location before hundreds of fans.  My wife and I came down from Maryland and we saw a number of people including Dovie McBrayer and Sue Karlok Lasine who have been active promoters of the band in cyberspace especially through the Facebook fan club page for years.

Going out with a Bang: The Final March Gig in Key West

Created: Monday, 05 March 2012

When Sunday rolls around and the Carter Brothers are set to play their seventh and final performance during a week in Key West, the evening can sometimes have an anti-climatic feel to it. Some visitors from around the country leave that day before the band plays. It’s a school night for the local fans. There is a sense of sadness among those who remain that there will be no “See you tomorrow night” from Tim when the final song is played.

Well, this Sunday (i.e., yesterday) turned out differently, that’s for sure!

Hearing the Voices of Angels

Created: Thursday, 05 July 2012

Last month the Carter Brothers returned to Key West for seven acoustic performances at the Hog’s Breath Saloon. It was just supposed to be Danny and Tim playing for four hours starting at 5:30pm each day. It turned out that most of the days were rain drenched, but that did not put much a damper on the playing and the crowd responses. Even as tropical storms lurked in the Caribbean, our heroes played their hearts out before long-time fans and curious tourists alike.
